Article: Stender featured at USF symposium

I’m a couple days late with this, but Margaret Stender (president and CEO of the Sky) recently spoke at a business symposium at the University of St. Francis’ College of Business and Health Administration. She spoke about the vision and mission of the Chicago Sky “brand” (cuz I suspect that the vision and mission of the Chicago Sky “team” is to, uh, ya know…win :-))

“(The Chicago Sky) is an organization that shows powerful women working together as a team,” Stender said. “We are all about inspiring confidence in girls and women and those who believe in them.”

“It showcases women’s empowerment and I believe women’s sports are driving meaningful social change.” she said. “The minute you walk into a WNBA arena it feels different. It’s a very special environment.”

“It takes generations to build sports leagues,” she said. “The biggest barrier is the continuum from awareness, education and trial.”

“In my lifetime, I want to write a check for $1 million for a woman to pay basketball,” she said.

From reading the excerpts from the article, it seems like it was a very good speech.
