Woo Hoo! All-Star MVP = Sylvia Fowles!

After putting up a monster 23pts and 8rbs in just 16 minutes in the “Stars at the Sun” all-star game, Sylvia Fowles led the USA to victory and was named the MVP of the game.  No, I didn’t watch the game (work, ugh!), but here’s some stuff you might wanna see…

* P I C S * Some awesome pics from WNBA.com of Big Syl getting the MVP trophy…

* Q & A * Post-game Q & A with Big Syl on WNBA.com…

QUESTION: Sylvia, there was one little section where there were three unexpected passes in a row on three possessions. Are you having a little difficulty realizing how well your teammates pass?
SYLVIA FOWLES: No. You know, sometimes you get up in the score and you kind of forget things. I think I kind of got side tracked a few times. Have people like Diana and Swin slap me upside the head, You need to pay attention, get things done.

Q: Coach Auriemma talked before the game about the difficulty that Team USA is having basically filling the post. Your performance today made a statement. Can you talk about assuming that legacy.
SYLVIA FOWLES: It’s a big role that I have to take on, but at the same time I played under Lisa and Tina for a year to learn a couple of things. When you got great teammates like Diana to stay in your ear and get things done on the floor, I don’t think you have no choice but to go out and compete to the best of your abilities every night.

Q: Sylvia, can you talk about how this was kind of like a UConn reunion with six players and Coach Auriemma there, you stole the spotlight from them all.
SYLVIA FOWLES: That is so not the case (smiling). I mean, they’re on this team for a reason. They’re great players. They played for a great coach. They got a lot of energy. They play well together. They have that chemistry. They know what they want and they know how to win. Just to be part of that little crew or click, it makes you feel good because you only want to learn from the best of the best.

* A R T I C L E * Fowles fills Team USA’s post needs (ESPN)

“[Fowles] was the understudy in the last Olympics,” Auriemma said. “Now she has to step up. … This is their team now. The last two years they’ve been looking up at these other guys, but now they’re going to have to carry the load.”

“Syl did a great job,” U.S. and Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird said. “She’s such a dominant player, you saw it. She can get every rebound if she wants. She can score 20 points a night if she wants. It’s a matter if she wants to that night. That’s what we’re trying to do, that’s what coach (Geno) Auriemma is trying to do, trying to get her to be like that every game.”

Way to go, Big Syl, on an awesome game and congrats on getting MVP!

Sky play the Liberty @ Madison Square Garden at 3pm on Sunday, so hopefully Big Syl didn’t completely wear herself out! …we are definitely gonna need her to come up big if we wanna get that dub!
