Back to .500, baby! Sky 61, Mystics 59

Preview || Recap || Box Score || Photo Gallery || Highlights

We’re .500!!! Gotta savor these moments…

I didn’t watch the game today (work, as always), but wins like this are so sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed watching the Sky beat up on the Western Conference these past couple home games…but there’s really nothing like beating conference rivals. The wins over the DC Mystics, Conn Sun and ATL Dream this season just have a different feel to them. On the flip side, the constant losing to NY and Indy stings a little more, obviously. We still have one more chance to redeem ourselves vs. both of those opponents though.

Anyway, lets get to the leader board…

LEADING SCORERS
Sylvia Fowles — 13pts
Dominique Canty — 11pts
Jia Perkins — 10pts

LEADING REBOUNDERS
Sylvia Fowles — 11rbs
Tamera Young — 4rbs
Christi Thomas — 3rbs

LEADING ASSISTS
Sylvia Fowles — 3asts
Cathrine Kraayeveld — 3asts
Erin Thorn — 3asts

LEADING STEALS
Jia Perkins — 3stls
Cathrine Kraayeveld — 2stls

LEADING BLOCKS
Sylvia Fowles — 3blks
Cathrine Kraayeveld — 1blk
Dominique Canty — 1blk

A couple things stand out to me. First of all, Big Syl leading the way with 3 assists. Wow. Fantastic. I love a post that can drop dimes. Secondly, Christi Thomas had 3 boards in only 7 mins of play. Nice. Way to crash the glass! Also, Kraayeveld seemed to have a good all-around game, leading in many categories.

Clearly, after looking at the box score, this game was definitely a low-scoring, defensive battle, but, once again, the Sky had really nice, balanced scoring. Also, it appears as if we have stayed hot from behind the arc, shooting 60% from three-point land.

“We knew what they wanted to do,” Chicago coach Steven Key said. “And everybody knew what we wanted to do. Sylvia stepped up, she made the right shot, and down on other end, she sets a presence under the basket.”

“Physically I think we’re fine,” Fowles said. “Mentally, I think we need to catch up. Just because it’s been a lot for us and it’s been an up-and-down season.”
