Game Notes: Sky 71, Sun 78 (Fan Appreciation Nite!)

Do the Sky ever win on Fan Appreciation Night? No. Have the Sky have ever won their last home game of the season? Yeah, back in 2007…the glory days. I guess we can still be thankful that no one got their eye poked out…

Anyway, there was a big, enthusiastic crowd on hand tonight. The atmosphere was great. The Sky were up and down, as usual. Yeah, it would have been nice to end the home season with a win, but, eh, we’ve been playing for lottery balls all season. We’re out of the playoffs. We can’t get to .500. This isn’t the time to make a push, ya know. Connecticut can have that #5 spot in the East. They gave away their first round draft pick anyway, so they don’t care. Even if we beat Tulsa today, we’re still locked into the 3rd-from-last spot league-wide. Nice.

Overall, Fan Appreciation Night was cool. I got the one thing I’ve been wanting all year (actually, the last 2 years)…a POSTER! …

2010 Team Poster

That’s hot! Kinda wish Shay Murphy was on there instead of Sandora Irvin, but whatever, I’m not complaining! So happy about getting this!

Another highlight of the evening was the Sky’s annual “Garage Sale” at which they sell a ton on awesome stuff for a fraction of the price. For example, I got two pairs of AUTHENTIC Sky basketball shorts (home and away) for $20 each! Whaaaat! That’s amazing! I’ve been wanting that for YEARS! I also got this…

Yeah, that’s Candice Dupree’s locker nameplate…SIGNED! Do you know how much that was? $10! Do you know how much I’d have been willing to pay for this? Probably about $100. Crazy. I also got this…

A signed Candice Dupree all-star headband! How much? You guessed it…$10. So freakin’ ridiculous!

I *LOOOOOOVE* the garage sale!

On that note, let’s check out what was said about this game from the people-in-the-know…

* A R T I C L E * Sky falls despite Prince’s 19 (Chicago Sun-Times)

”We gave up an 8-0 run to start the [fourth] quarter,” Sky coach Steven Key said. ”It’s something that has been a negative thing for us all season. We work hard to get a lead, and then we give something back as a gift.”

* A R T I C L E * Prince at a loss in Chicago Sky’s lost season (Daily Herald)

“This is my first time not making a postseason – ever,” said Prince, who has tasted postseason success in high school, in college at Rutgers and in her winter off-season overseas. She did her best to help the Sky knock off Connecticut, scoring a team-high 19 points, including 3 three-pointers.

“It’s hard right now,” Prince said. “I don’t think I’ll even be able to watch (the WNBA playoffs on TV) because I’ll be jealous that I won’t be playing.

“I was just telling (Sky center Sylvia Fowles) the other day that it feels like I didn’t make the NCAA Tournament.”

“Ugh,” said Fowles when asked to sum up the Sky’s season.

* V I D E O * Epiphanny Prince talking post-game about the game and season…

That’s it for now, Sky fans…
