Transactions: First Cuts

I found this info over on Rebkell’s message board at the end of this long “Transactions” thread

It’s kinda small so I don’t know if you can read it, but basically it says that Kristi Cirone and Shyra Ely were both waived yesterday. This information isn’t yet on posted on the WNBA’s transaction page, but neither player is listed on the roster anymore (were they listed before? I dunno for sure, but I think Cirone was). The thing that surprises me the most is that CBSSports.com has the most up-to-date transaction information. WHAAAT! I stopped checking this site a looooong time ago because, well, it sucks for WNBA info. Might have to take a second look…

Anyway, we all knew the Ely cut was coming because of the injury. She even blogged about it a few days ago. The Cirone cut surprises me a little bit just because I assumed they would have kept the local player around at least until after the first home preseason game. Oh well. Perhaps they needed some room to bring in other players off of waivers.  Or perhaps Kristi replaced Kristi in camp (i.e. Toliver’s arrival = Cirone’s dismissal).

Down to 16.

  1. They didn’t even give Cirone a chance! Let Toliver and Cirone battle it out! Who comes out on top? Cirone!!!

    • they cut her before the first home preseason game so I really can’t comment on her game. But yeah, they coulda let those two battle it out. The problem was, I think you’re only allowed to have a certain number of players at camp. So when one returns, one has to leave. Neither of them are actually on the team now. I’m sure Cirone will turn up somewhere else in the near future.
